Why We Should Embrace Artificial Intelligence Now to Reap Its Benefits, Curb Its Threats, and Maintain Our Sovereignty as a Country 30th March 2025

LEADS is presenting this preliminary discussion on artificial intelligence for your consideration. It focuses on the safe use of AI-powered equipment in Sri Lanka, most of which is imported. Our experts must carefully examine these systems to ensure safety and prevent harmful data transfers.

To achieve this, Sri Lanka must develop competent AI professionals. We propose that the government consider funding at least 10 post-doctoral fellowships focused on AI utility and safety. These fellowships should be supervised by a special board composed of five experts from Sri Lankan universities (state and private) and at least two expatriate experts worldwide.
