This was a presentation and discussion led by Professor I.M. Dharmadasa (IMD) of Sheffield Hallam University, UK on Solar Energy Villages establishment in Sri Lanka.
Speaker Prof I.M Dharmadasa is a Senior Staff Grade Professor of Applied Physics and leads the Electronic Materials and Solar Energy Group at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. He is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya/Sri Lanka and completed his PhD in 1980 from Durham by winning an open commonwealth scholarship. He was initially a lecturer at the Department of Physics at the University of Peradeniya. After that, he returned to the UK in 1984 because of his interest in solar energy conversion research. Since then, he has worked on this subject at the University College Cardiff, BP Research Sunbury and Sheffield Hallam University in the UK. During his 31 years of service at SHU, he has supervised 29 PhD students, and claimed 6 patents, and published over 250 scientific articles, and three books in the solar energy field.
