Our status quo September 2020

Updated: Oct 13, 2022

Sri Lanka today is at a critical juncture. Why? The country’s debt repayment requirements have reached nearly 90% of GDP. Thus, we virtually have no reserve capacity whatsoever to cope and compensate if things go wrong. Mistakes can be catastrophic and the consequences long-term. Evidence-based practice across the country is fundamental for sustainable national development. It is a 'motto' that we all should learn to honour in our culture..

We have to learn from our past and look at the challenges of the future to offer realistic solutions for the anticipated problems supported by an evidence base and not ad hoc. This is the only way we can ensure a greener future for our children. There is no short-cut. We just have to work smartly, constructively, and in unity as a nation.

COVID pandemic taught us two things; We saw the benefits of leadership working together with scientific advice to achieve COVID control; a great success. We also learnt that stopping working is not a viable option. This is because we have no 'money tree' for our rescue. What we need is more and more of evidence-based united action for our rescue from this precipitous decline. Otherwise, we may end up a debt-ridden corrupted state in poverty.

We need constructive solutions. This web site is designed to receive and publish your articles that propose evidence-based solutions to our problems. All publications are peer reviewed and edited to conform to above. This is not a platform for individualised blame or political criticism.
