· Sri Lanka suffered maximally in this worst maritime disaster in the world on its shores in 2021.
· Two other ports refused docking of this ship as they had no facilities to ‘rework’ the leaking acid container. Why did Sri Lanka allow them in? Did our ports have better facilities than Qatar or India, or was it pure ignorance? Or was our standard operational procedure weak?
· Did the ship not declare these issues when they wanted to dock in Colombo?
· Was there any corruption within the involved parties, including the shipping company? That is system failure due to external factors.
· What has Sri Lanka done to correct its system weaknesses?
· We do have a disaster management centre. Why were they not involved?
· Despite many weaknesses, the compensation legal case is also riddled with various interferences.
· The ultimate sufferers are the People of Sri Lanka. But, sadly, at least one senior politician thought it was a good thing to have had disaster in Sri Lanka as it will give us a lot of compensation at this challenging time. That is, again, external interference derailing standard operating procedures.
· The media role in Sri Lanka is not investigative – hence, it does not have much value – that is the current majority consensus.
· This event is a ‘system failure’ at a significant scale that we must address as a Nation. Were external interferences breaking the rules?
